"We have children at the heart of everything we do and understand the need to nurture the whole child both personally and academically."

Dutch language learning

Every child is given the opportunity to learn Dutch with a native Dutch primary school teacher. All the children are taught Dutch language and Dutch culture. The Dutch language lessons are separated into ability groups:

  • New to Dutch (beginners and intermediate Dutch speakers)
  • Intermediate
  • Native Dutch (native or near native Dutch speakers)

During language lessons, the children learn basic conversation through games, songs, drama and activities. Children who are native Dutch speakers have separate language classes, which are tailored to the individual needs of each child.

The Dutch culture lessons enable children to learn about a variety of Dutch customs and traditions, including learning about Dutch food, Koningsdag, Carnival, Queen’s Day and (the story of) Sinterklaas.

We believe in the importance of experiencing Dutch customs first-hand and we encourage and enable our children, and their parents, to do so.  For example, joining the Sint celebration at our Dutch primary partner, the Dr De Visser School, and as guests of the local council at the town hall for the city’s official Sinterklaas parade.

Our Parents Association also organise cultural events for parents, such as a historical walk in Breda, and Dutch conversation classes.
